Museum Mile is the name of the part of Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, which stretches from 82nd street ( The Metropolitan Museum of Art ) till the building of El Museo del Barrio near 104th street. On the side of the Met there is the long green stripe of Central Park, on the opposite side Carnegie Hill.

There are nine museums which display the most valuable items from all different cultures of the world. In the neighbourhood there are three more museums – Frick Collection, Modern Art and soon to be opened Museum of African Art.
The most important here, and one of the most important in the world is The Metropolitan Museum of Art. A visit to the Met should include artifact of Ancient Egyptian and Far Eastern cultures, Greek and Roman galleries, Chinese Gardens and a splendid collection of European paintings.
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum displays the works of major 20th century artists, including Kandinsky,Miro and Picasso, and it is worth seeing even only for its building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution is the country’s best place to view and study design, especially 18th century French ones.
The Jewish Museum is dedicated to art by Jewish Artists and works connected with Judaism. There are 4000 years old artifacts from Israel and modern works of Marc Chagall and Max Weber.
The small space occupied by Goethe-Institut New York operating as German Cultural Center exhibits works connected with German culture, while in El Museo del Barrio one can see the items from Central and South America especially the creations of Puerto Rican artists.
Two more spots to see along the street are Museum of the City of New York and Neue Galerie New York.
The street earned also the festival on its own, during Museum Mile Festival in June this secion of fifth Avenue is closed for traffic and fills with musicians, artists and public institution events.
